La Chinoiserie Porcelain Fretwork Paper Placemat (Pad of 25)

The fretwork lattice laid flat beneath the setting — interlocking squares and diamonds carried edge to edge, no border to line up, the centre left clear for the plate.

Fretwork is the geometric counterpart to the La Chinoiserie garden. Where the garden mats put a picture under the plate, this one puts architecture there: lay the garden plates on top and the lattice reads as the structure the scene sits on. A slate-blue lattice on pale straw — the quietest mat the pattern makes, and the one that argues least with a busy plate.

A tear-away pad: a fresh sheet lifts off for each setting, and the used one goes in the bin. 12″ × 18″, 25 sheets to the pad.
