Noël — L'Élan (Set of 8)

Les Patineurs comes from the hand-coloured plates of Jean Garcin's Le Vrai Patineur, Paris 1813 — a manual on how to skate with grace, illustrated throughout by a dandy in a frogged red jacket and green breeches, blades strapped over his boots, demonstrating each figure in turn. L'Élan catches him mid-glide: one leg swept out behind, both arms open, the long shadow of the run trailing away across the ice.

The engraving is printed as it sits on the page — foxing, laid lines, torn edge of the ice and all.

Available as a 9″ dinner plate, 7″ salad/dessert plate, and 7″ bowl. Red and green without a sprig of holly in sight — Noël for a table that would rather not be obvious.
