Noël — La Tulipe (8 Square Plates)

A single flamed tulip, white shot through with crimson, the petals broken and feathered against a warm grey ground — here squared off, so the painting runs to four straight edges.

A square plate crops a picture differently. The image reaches the corners and the whole thing reads more like a tile than a dish, which suits a painting better than a circle does. Square also stacks flat on a buffet and sits tighter on a crowded table.

Square plates, eight to a pack, in two sizes. The same tulip is available as a round plate with a coordinating bowl.
