Description

The medallion is one of the oldest and most resolved forms in European decorative art: a circular device containing an image or motif, framed by concentric rings or a border, placed at the center of a surface to organize the composition around it. The Medallion placemat uses that formal vocabulary at dining table scale — a central medallion device on a warm ground, the border giving the sheet the character of a considered decorative object rather than a paper covering.

A tear-away pad of 25 sheets. Dimensions 12″ × 18″ × 0.25″. Vibrant full-color printing. Not recommended for direct food contact — use with plates or serving pieces. For the table that wants its placemats to look as though they have been chosen rather than supplied.

A Note from Jeff

The medallion form has been organizing decorative surfaces for two thousand years and shows no sign of having exhausted its uses. On a placemat at dining table scale, the central device grounds the place setting in exactly the way the form was always intended to work: a focused point from which the rest of the arrangement radiates.

For the table that wants its setting to look considered rather than assembled.
