Description

Three centuries ago, the perfumers of Grasse made a decision that changed the way the world smelled. They planted roses in the terraced hillsides above the town and began extracting their essence with the obsessive, patient precision of people who understood that beauty at its finest is not discovered but constructed: note by note, petal by petal, season by season.

The Centifolia rose of Grasse, the rose of a hundred petals, became the most prized floral material in all of haute parfumerie, the foundation on which the great French perfume houses built their most enduring masterpieces. This fragrance takes that inheritance and refuses to treat it as a museum piece.

The Rose for Dreamers and Wanderers

GRASSE opens with the defiant brightness of basil and grapefruit: herbaceous, zesty, unconventional, a modern provocation that announces immediately that this scent is not your grandmother's floral. The heart is where the contradiction resolves into something magnificent: rose and magnolia in a floral composition that is simultaneously timeless and free, elegant and restless, the classic note played by someone who learned all the rules and chose which ones to keep.

Patchouli arrives in the base like the earth itself reclaiming the garden: deep, grounding, aromatic with the particular mystery of things that grow in the dark. This is the rose for dreamers. For wanderers. For the ones who know that the most beautiful things are always a little wild.

The Wax and the Vessel

GRASSE is built on a coconut apricot wax blend, a vegan formula of natural coconut, apricot, and soy waxes completed with a minuscule quantity of highly refined food-grade paraffin. It burns cleaner and more evenly than traditional paraffin while holding fragrance with greater fidelity than pure soy. For a composition that moves from bright herbaceous citrus to a deep patchouli base, the wax has to carry a wide tonal range without flattening it, releasing the top notes and the base at the rate the fragrance intends.

The frosted glass vessel has a soft matte finish and glows from within when lit, an even, ambient light rather than a flame on display. The natural wooden wick adds a gentle crackle, the sound of a small fire, grounding the floral composition in something tactile and familiar. The wax is toxin-free, paraben-free, and phthalate-free, sourced from renewable origins and fully biodegradable.

  • Size: 11 oz. · 2.93” W × 3.75” H
  • Burn Time: Approximately 60 Hours
  • Origin: Made in the USA

The First Burn

Allow the wax to melt fully to the edge of the vessel on the first burn, generally two to three hours. This prevents tunneling and engages the full wax pool for every subsequent burn. A candle given this small courtesy at the outset will honor the full sixty hours of its intended life.

Safe Burning

Trim the wooden wick to 1⁄8” before each burn. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Never burn on or near anything that might catch fire. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. For comprehensive guidance, the National Candle Association maintains an excellent resource at candles.org.

The Vessel After

The frosted glass vessel is worth keeping when the candle has run its course. Warm water and dish soap remove any remaining wax cleanly, and what remains is a small, beautifully finished object that deserves a second life: as a vase, a vessel for pencils, or simply a reminder that good things are worth the space they occupy.

Fragrance Pyramid

Top Notes
Basil, Grapefruit

Heart Notes
Rose, Magnolia

Base Notes
Patchouli

The opening is deliberately contrary: basil and grapefruit, herbaceous and zesty, a bright provocation that sets the fragrance apart from the conventional floral before the flower has even arrived. The heart is the Grasse inheritance itself, rose and magnolia, the Centifolia tradition handled with freedom rather than reverence. The base is patchouli alone, deep and earthy, the garden's soil reclaiming the garden, and the note that keeps the whole composition from drifting into the merely pretty.
