The Candle Itself

A fragrance is only as honest as the wax that carries it. Ours is a coconut–apricot blend — a vegan composition of coconut, apricot, and soy waxes, made in the USA from renewable sources and fully biodegradable. We chose it for the way it behaves: a low, even melt that releases fragrance steadily rather than all at once, the way a room should fill — gradually, and then completely.

The fragrance oils are blended and tested in the United States to the strictest clean standard we could find: free of phthalates and parabens, and formulated without a single ingredient on California's Proposition 65 list. No dyes in the wax. Nothing in the vessel but what belongs there.

Each candle is hand-poured in small batches in the USA into frosted glass, finished with a natural wood lid. The wick is wood, not cotton — it burns with a soft crackle that does for a quiet evening what a fireplace does for a winter one. Trim it to 1/8" before each burn, give the first burn two to three hours to reach the edge of the glass, and the candle will return the favor for roughly sixty hours.

One note, because we work with natural waxes and no industrial stabilizers: you may occasionally see a soft, translucent veil where the wax meets the glass. It is the signature of a clean wax cooling at its own pace — a fingerprint, not a flaw. And when the last hour has burned, keep the vessel. Warm water and soap will clear it, and it deserves a second life on your desk or shelf.

There is a morning in Alsace, usually sometime in October, when the first cold has arrived properly and the Christmas market dates are printed on the calendar, when you wake in a half-timbered house to the smell of something extraordinary drifting up from the kitchen below. Cinnamon. Butter. The suggestion of caramel. And you understand, without needing to be told, that this is what warmth actually smells like when it means it.

COLMAR opens with the sweetness of golden maple and crushed walnut, warm and nutty and unapologetically indulgent, the scent of something being made with care for someone who matters. Butter and cinnamon bloom in the heart: a bakery-fresh coziness that is not precious or delicate but genuinely, deeply comforting.

The base is the lingering warmth of a Colmar kitchen: caramel folding into smooth cream, vanilla threading through everything like a ribbon through a gift. This is the candle you light when you want your home to feel like a place someone made for you, and meant every decision they made about it.

A Note from Jeff

Colmar in the autumn is like walking through a storybook that someone has carefully warmed over a low flame. I remember the contrast of the crisp Alsatian air outside and the staggering richness of the bakeries near the Lauch River. I wanted to capture the moment you finally step inside. It’s the kind of scent that makes a room feel finished—like someone was expecting you.
