The La Chinoiserie Lagoon party table carries the eighteenth-century chinoiserie garden — blossoming branch, pheasant, low garden fence — across the plates and the placemat, in deep navy on a bright aqua ground. The napkin answers it in Fretwork, the open lattice, in the same two colours.

Navy on aqua is the colourway I reach for outdoors. Blue-and-white in full sun goes flat; put the same navy on aqua and it keeps its contrast at noon.
