Tear Away Vintage Toile Paper Party Placemat
Description
Toile de Jouy — the finely engraved pastoral scenes printed in a single color on a plain ground, produced at the workshops of Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf in the village of Jouy-en-Josas from the 1760s onward — is one of the great inventions of French domestic design. Its characters: the shepherdess, the harvester, the lovers under a tree, the distant house on a hill — have been reproduced on wallpaper, on upholstery, on bedlinen and tableware for two and a half centuries without exhausting their capacity to make a room feel settled and considered. The Vintage Toile placemat brings that visual tradition to the table in a design drawn from the same pastoral vocabulary.
Single-color pastoral toile on a plain ground. A tear-away pad of 25 sheets. Dimensions 12″ × 18″. For the table that wants the permanence of a great decorative tradition in a format designed to be used without ceremony.
