Fête du Thé Jelly Dessert Pudding Paper Napkins
Description
The French have always understood that a tea is not merely a beverage occasion but a small theater of objects: the right cup, the right cloth, the right surface on which everything rests. The Les Meubles napkins bring a piece of that theater to the table in the form of vintage French furniture illustrations, rendered in warm ochre and deep red tones with the quiet authority of a 19th-century cabinet-maker’s catalogue.
The French tradition of furniture illustration reached its peak in the catalogues and pattern books of the 18th and 19th centuries, when cabinet-makers produced detailed engravings of their work as a form of advertisement, documentation, and design archive simultaneously. The Les Meubles illustrations draw on this tradition, presenting individual furniture pieces as small, confident vignettes in rich red and golden tones against a warm ground. A subtle numbered print references the original catalogue convention: each piece recorded, classified, and given its proper place in a considered sequence.
