Les Desserts brings the 19th-century pâtisserie plate to the napkin, drawn with the precision of a pastry catalogue. Four formats — dinner and luncheon napkins for the place setting, cocktail napkins for the tray, and a guest towel for the washstand — each in packs of 20.

I have been collecting French furniture catalogues for years, not because I am a furniture collector in the serious sense, but because of the illustrations: the precision with which a skilled draughtsman could convey the weight of a piece of carved walnut or the sheen of a lacquered surface using nothing but line and a careful arrangement of hatching. There is a confidence to those drawings that the furniture itself sometimes lacks.

A napkin printed with those drawings is a small act of homage to that tradition — and a considerably more interesting object than a plain white square of paper.
