Description

Some cards are discarded with the wrapping. Others end up on the mantelpiece, or tucked into the back of a book, or pinned to a wall for reasons the recipient couldn’t entirely explain. The difference is nearly always the design.

The Chromatique Color Wheel card carries the antique colour wheel across its full face — the twelve-segment diagram from the 18th-century European colour science tradition, in the warm oxidized tones of the aged original. The same diagram that appears on the colour wheel plate and placemat, here scaled to a card suited to the flat-file envelope and the mantelpiece equally. Interior blank, matte finish, envelope included. Sold in packs of 8, 16, or 24. Part of the Vintage Voyagers France Colour Theory collection.
A Note from Jeff

The colour wheel is one of those ideas that has not required revision in two and a half centuries. On a greeting card at A2 scale, the same diagram that works as a scientific instrument works equally well as a card front: the graduated saturation reads clearly, the circular form fills the card face with genuine visual interest, and the recipient knows immediately that the sender thought about what they were sending.

For anyone who takes colour seriously, or anyone who knows someone who does.
