Description

Paul Barras lived at the epicenter of the French Revolution and walked away from all of it. He helped bring down Robespierre, shaped the Directory that governed France between the Terror and Napoléon, and did it all with a flair for the theatrical that was entirely his own. Here he is captured in full Directory-era splendor — the tricolor-plumed hat, the cascade of lace, the ceremonial sash worn like he invented it. Bold. Theatrical. Absolutely in charge.

The Barras Tray is part of La Révolution, a collection that puts the personalities who remade the modern world into the objects of daily life. It is a conversation piece that arrives already mid-conversation — and a genuinely useful one at that. The original digital collage portrait is designed by Jeff Barnes and available exclusively through Vintage Voyagers France.

Serve something worthy of him.

A Note from Jeff

Barras is one of those figures who did everything and is remembered for almost nothing — which is perhaps how he would have wanted it. He was a survivor in an era when survival required a particular kind of intelligence, and he carried himself through the Revolution and into comfortable retirement without the martyrdom that claimed nearly everyone else of consequence. The portrait I found for this collage captures exactly that quality: the theatrical confidence of someone who knows they are going to outlast whatever comes next.

A wonderful gift for history lovers, Francophiles, and anyone who thinks the dinner table deserves a little more drama.
