Tuileries Tray Spring No. 2
Description
The garden plans of Le Nôtre and his contemporaries are among the most beautiful documents in the history of French design: large-format drawings in ink and wash that show the parterre, the bosquet, the canal, and the allée from above, each element precise and considered, the whole composition revealing at a glance the organizing intelligence that would take years to walk through on the ground. The Tuileries Tray Spring No. 2 carries a second such composition — a companion to No. 1, the same garden seen from a different angle or at a different season, with slightly shifted proportions and a new emphasis in the parterre arrangement.
Together the two Tuileries trays work as a pair — the same formal garden system approached from two positions, the way Le Nôtre himself would have walked it: once down the central axis, and again across the transverse alleys, finding the garden different and equally resolved in each direction. On a sideboard or console table, the two trays present the geometry of the Tuileries as a domestic installation.
Available in four sizes. The large format carries the full garden plan; the slim tray works well as a desk organizer or bar tray for a room that takes its decoration seriously.
